Description: I have been doing my own little research project having to do with horses for a little while. They are amazing and gorgeous animals, and their ancestry is no less fascinating. One thing I find curious is how many equine breeds there are that still exhibit characteristics from a much earlier time. I’m grateful for this, as well. One of these older breeds is the New Forest pony. This semi-wild pony is from Hampshire in Great Britain. Is seems that throughout their history various studs have been introduced to improve the stock, starting as far back as 1208. I am stunned by the record keeping of those involved in horse breeding. 1208! Now that was a few lifetimes ago. The New Forest Pony is considered a fine pony for children, and it is quite excellent at jumping, dressage and other skills. Plus this is a very pretty little equine! Most of the time they are bay, but apparently other colors occasionally occur with this breed. They are now bred in many parts of Great Britain, but there is still a semi-wild herd in New Forest.
