Description: Burros, or donkeys, are charming animals. Common now as a farm animal, they may not be as necessary in this country as they once were. I know at times of the past they were a much needed pack animal. Now they are used more as companions, as far as I’m aware of anyway. And they do seem to get along well with a myriad of other farm animals. They can come in many different colors. Although most of them are gray, black, brown or white, they can occasionally be pinto or even piebold! The white donkey has long been thought of favorably, and was associated with godliness. Even the ancient Egyptians used the white donkey in their special events presumably to add a dash of interest. Donkeys seem to be more aware of something potentially dangerous in their surroundings than the other grazing animals that they keep company with, including the horse. They are almost always the first to notice the approach of a stranger, for instance. And unlike the horse, their first impulse is not to flee if a wolf or a dog approaches, but to chase it away! Tough little guys, alright! It was fun to create my first donkey jewelry, starting with this sterling silver donkey charm. His friend, the cow charm in sterling silver is one of several more possible gifts of silver farm animal charms.
