Description: The sheltie is considered to be one of the most delightful of all dogs. They are intelligent, and normally have an incredibly close relationship with their owner. If the sheltie has done something wrong, very little in the way of punishment is necessary because the sheltie already knows it did wrong, and will want to make up for it in any way that it can. I saw a lot of this kind of behavior in Hector, a Shetland sheepdog that shared his life with my sister Holly. I remember how Hector would look into Holly’s face, trying to discern her mood and what would be the best possible thing for him to do to please her. He was a remarkable dog indeed. Shelties have a history of learning how to obey orders from their sheep herding days, and they seem able to carry on that ability into the life of the modern family. It’s quite interesting to see how they have adapted their abilities in that direction. And they manage to do so without being demanding in any way.
