Description: Schnauzers are, of course, German dogs and the standard schnauzer is the one where it all started. (In other words, the Giant Schnauzer as well as the miniature derived from the standard schnauzer.)
The original schnauzer jobs were as rat and weasel hunters. Here’s something that always confuses me. There were several breeds of dog that were bred to kill weasels and their relatives. The question is- why? As far as I am aware, weasels themselves devour rats, which to me seems like the whole point. Perhaps folks back then just didn’t realize that the “lowly” weasel was their friend!
Anyway, not to diminish the abilities of the schnauzer, because I’m sure they were very good at what they did. I like to think they made more short work of the rats than the weasels, however.
Colors of the schnauzers seem to vary a bit depending on which of the 3 variations are under discussion. The standard and the giant schnauzer are supposed to be black or pepper. The miniature schnauzer is either black and silver, solid colors or black and tan.
All three versions need a lot of exercise and daily brushing to look and be their healthy best.
A sterling silver schnauzer charm could be the start of a beautiful thing! There are lots more .925 charms where this one came from, including my special shih tzu sterling silver charm.
