Description: Officially known as the American Staffordshire bull terrier or staffie, this tough little dog is said to make a loyal pet. I’ve also heard this breed referred to as an American pit bull terrier, an American Staffordshire terrier and a bull terrier. Wow! Why so many monikers? This is a stocky fighting dog that was bred for that purpose in the 1800s. Although this dog is obedient to its master, it can still be aggressive so makes a good guard dog. The dog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1936. At that time it was known as the Stafford terrier, but in 1972 it was named the American Staffordshire terrier so there would be no confusion between this dog and the smaller English Staffordshire bull terrier. This dog is a mix of the Staffordshire bull terrier and the bull terrier, and is a muscular dog, quite strong. I opted to make my pit bull dog jewelry with the ears uncropped, because I think it gives him a softer and friendlier look.
