Description: For some reason, the dog bone has long been a favorite symbol of dog ownership. I don’t know of a lot of dogs who actually chew on bones, but for so many years it has been used to define “dogdom” and it is an instantly recognizable symbol of such. I wonder if that goes back to ancient times, or if it is a fairly modern thing. Not that the 1950s were ancient times, except maybe to kids who are in their 20s today, but there was a famous dog biscuit we used to give our Dalmation that was in the form of a bone. It just seems to be one of those generally accepted things that have an origin that kind of makes sense, but not entirely. Regardless of that, I think wearing something with a bone makes you instantly recognized as being of the “doggy” persuasion. I just don’t see a cat person putting a bone charm on her bracelet. Unless, of course she is one of those wonderful human beings that doesn’t play favorites and loves all things canine and feline!
