Description: This little frisky dog was bred to go down into burrows and drive out badgers. Or maybe to kill them? That seems unlikely because badgers are especially dangerous and ill tempered animals that don’t look like they’d put up with the nipping of a little dachshund very gracefully. Of course now they make absolutely wonderful pets, (the dog, not the badger) and seldom, if ever are asked to perform such death-defying acts of courage. Of course, they are great watchdogs, and could probably drive a would -be burglar to distraction by nipping toes, especially if he were wearing sandals. Back to that earlier purpose. Apparently the word dachs means badger, and the word hund means dog in German. And also apparently the mighty dachshund did indeed attack the badger. It seems like the dachshund could be put to better purposes, such as sleeping on the couch with you when you fall asleep watching old episodes of Futurama after midnight. I apologize in advance for creating this charm in the begging dog position. I realize that many people discourage this habit, but it’s just so darn cute. That’s the problem! So wear this sterling silver dachshund charm without fear, perhaps it will be a talisman against wild badgers.
