Description: The word corgi itself is possibly a derivative of the Welsh word corrci, meaning dwarf dog. They do look a little dwarf like with those short little legs and a head slightly larger than you might expect. Most people already know this, but there are two types of this little dog. There’s the Pembroke and the Cardigan. The Pembroke, which is the one sans much of a tail, is probably the most popular. It’s been a favorite of royalty through many generations, which may account for the “common people” being attracted to them as well. The Pembroke has a long and noble history. Most often it’s thought that it arrived in Wales in the early part of the 12th century. Flemish weavers may have brought them over. The two corgis have been considered separate breeds since before World War II. Despite their small size they were use to herd cattle. Actually, it sounds like the small size was an advantage because they could nip the heels of their charges then get the heck out of the way before there were retributions! If your corgi lover of note is also a charm bracelet wearer (or could be one) this sterling silver corgi charm would be an instant hit! Additional dog charms are over at sterling dog breed charms including another small wonder- the smart little silver beagle charm. |
