Description: Chihuahuas may be of the toy dog persuasion, but they have the dynamic personality and toughness of a dog many times its size. It is completely unintimidated by a much larger dog. The picture it must have of itself is of a wolf or a mastiff at least. It would be great if we could look into the mind of this little dynamo and see the picture it presents to itself, of itself. They prefer dogs of their own kind as company. Perhaps it is a bit of a chauvinist in this regard. Or maybe the reality of the situation (that is, their actual size) encourages them to stay within the neighborhood, so to speak! The smooth coated Chihuahua is the most popular variety in the United States. This is the model I used for my charm. One of these days I may add a long haired version to my collection. I have a picture in one of my dog books of a group of 5 or 6 Chihuahuas facing the camera in such a belligerent pose that both my husband and I were instantly reminded of the movie we just finished watching, The Gangs of New York.
