Description: As many people know, this little dog was once bred to bait bulls by biting their noses to anger them and make them fight. It’s a bit hard to imagine that this was once considered entertainment by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a different time and that’s the way it was. This sport was finally outlawed, but a tradition of dog fighting continued until 1835 when it was also banned. Good Riddance!
This dog used to be a pretty rough customer, but all the pugnacity has been bred out of the breed, and the current example is a gentle soul that is even good with children. I can’t help but think his basic nature must’ve been goodhearted from the beginning, and he, like the gladiators before him was forced to be a cruel fighter against his will. Maybe this is just fancy on my part, who knows? I do know that often times character has been subjugated to provide “entertainment” that is in fact more cruel than anything.
He certainly looks the part of a scrappy little fighter, with his low slung jaw and his broad chest and stocky body. He is still a powerful dog and luckily is now quite sweet!
I think the sterling silver bulldog charm would make a bulldog owner proud, and proud she would be to wear it on a favorite bracelet.
Another sweet face is the lovable silver basset charm. The full grouping of charms can be seen in the unique dog charms in silver section.
