Description: The Boston terrier is undoubtedly a handsome chap (or chapling). You just can’t get better than a neat suit in black and white. Some people have said that he is, in essence the national dog of America, but I don’t think that’s official and there are many people who probably would like to claim that title for their dog! He is a pretty small guy, though not as petite as some of the toy breeds. He usually weighs in at about 20 pounds. A handful, but no more than say a one year old child. He has one of those coats that would be relatively easy to take care of. A while back these dogs were larger and quite a bit heavier, but the compact shape has been bred into today’s dog. Obviously he has a bit of the bulldog in him, so I can understand why the earlier model was a more robust (or is it rotund) dog. The other parentage was a dog known as a White terrier, which just isn’t around anymore. I still find it hard to imagine him being any size other than what he is today.
