Description: Most people these days have their cats neutered, and with good reason, but the sweetness of a queen and her litter is still a magical thing to behold. And of course there will always be cat breeders doing their work to carry on champion lines of pedigreed cats. The gestation of a cat is about 60 days, more or less. Mom cat likes to choose her place of delivery. Most of the time there are about four kittens, but many cats have more and for some reason Siamese cats have even larger families. Soon after birth they begin nursing. Their eyes are shut at birth and they can’t yet hear, but after about the seventh day the kittens open their eyes. They grow rapidly and before you know it will be chasing their littermate’s and mom’s tails around the house and will begin their mom’s instructions on how to hunt. Kittens, of course, shouldn’t be separated from their mothers until they’re weaned. I’m not sure when that is, but I’d imagine it varies somewhat depending on the circumstances. To me there is nothing more precious in the animal kingdom than a young kitten running around the house. I remember when my grand kitty Throckmorton had a grand time climbing the Christmas tree just a few short years ago. And now she is an elegant silver tabby grownup who would never participate in such childish activities!
