to have a kind of personality. And bugs aren’t so bad. They even have some things in common with birds, that animal that most everyone loves. Let’s see, they both lay eggs, they both (mostly) fly, and there are certainly bugs that sing, albeit through motions of their legs or possibly other body parts that would be unconventional for a feathered friend. True, birds don’t pupate, but they do fly south for the winter. And there is that pesky little thing known as a backbone that bugs seem to do well without. Still and all, there are some superficial similarities that do give one pause. Oh another thing- there are many bugs that even the most paranoid of bug haters have to admit are pretty, and I’m not just talking about butterflies and dragonflies. There is a beautiful grasshopper I see in my lawn most every summer, but when I realized it was devouring the new green leaves of my baby mango trees they lost their appeal. So fear not- the bugs have let us survive right along with them for a pretty darned long time, and believe me, there are enough of them that if they got tired of us they could probably tell us where to go in no uncertain terms!
