Description:
Once in a while a cage bird does unfortunately escape. I read about an umbrella cockatoo in England that lived in South London. It made friends with some rooks and stayed with them night and day. Both rooks and Umbrellas are flock birds, so I reckon it was a good enough match under the circumstances. I imagine it might be a bit hard to find a mate, however! Once here in Florida I saw a little blue budgie flying around with a flock of the local Quaker parakeets. I just had the impression they were showing him the ropes. He looked so cute with them as he was about half their size.

I’m surprised that there aren’t more colonies of parrots in Florida since the temperatures tend to be mild or hot all year round. I actually have seen a troop of black headed parrots that I’ve not been able to identify. More often it’s the Quakers I see.

There are some other kinds of cockatoos I think are interesting looking and I’ve not seen as pets. Maybe they just aren’t as common or don’t make as good a pet. One is the gang gang cockatoo. They are really unusual looking with a dark grey feathering that has sort of a softer grey outlining each one. Their beak is horn colored and they have a dusting of red on the face and crest. These cockatoos are from south eastern Australia.

I don’t think my sterling silver charm would pass as a gang gang cockatoo, but it could be symbolic of the whole species if that’s what you decided!

I have a few more to see at sterling silver bird charms; one of the fun ones is a wise old owl silver charm.
