My imagination goes wild when I think of all the sterling silver bird charms I could design! Parrots galore, song birds, herons seagulls and you name it. Since we live in Florida, we have access to some of the best bird watching territory on the planet, inspiration is just a window away! They are one of my favorite 925 charms and I plan on doing many more.
A few days ago we were visited by a most unusual bird. I saw it flit across our backyard a few times, a bright crimson blur. At first my husband refused to believe my assertion that this was no ordinary red bird- certainly not a cardinal. Every time I yelled at him to come look at it he had his glasses off. Most frustrating. Finally he, too was privy to this red magnificence. We looked it up using our good friend the internet and discovered it to be called a “summer red bird” or “summer tanager”. And it holds the distinguished title of the only completely red bird in the USA. It felt good to be validated at last. (Even though I was secretly hoping we’d discover it was some rare denizen of Africa blown way off course.) I was also pretty surprised I’d never seen one like it before.
The thing that’s great about designing bird charms in sterling silver is that I can take a day, two days or more to work on a single piece that can then be cast in such quantities that every bird loving woman can wear one on her charm bracelet.
