I myself have never had a parrot as a pet, but I know quite a few avian veterinarians and other pet bird lovers. Many years ago I met a fellow from Alaska who loved my jewelry and invited me to come to his bird club meeting in Anchorage. I kind of regret now that I didn’t go – it would’ve been wonderfully surreal to see all those tropical birds in the frozen North.
I learned recently that there are some African Greys known as “king greys”. Tribal leaders in Africa prize these birds, so it’s said. It’s really just a situation of Greys developing pinkish feathering where they’re normally grey colored. When the bird molts, the pink feathers sometimes disappear. It’s thought that excessive cod liver oil in the diet can cause this. What I want to know, is how are these tribal leaders getting African Greys to consume cod liver oil?
Another color anomaly is the occasional African Grey that has no melanin at all in the feathers. Yes, that means they are white! White African Grey parrots with red tails. Now that would be something to see!
A sterling silver African grey charm would be a nice starter silver charm or additional charm as a gift for the African grey lover you know.
If you would like to see other birds visit silver bird charms home; you'll even find a beautiful little silver penguin charm.
