Since 2002, I’ve been creating fun, whimsical sterling silver jewelry that has a personality all its own! All of my sterling jewelry begins as an original creation designed in my Florida studio. I love designing silver earrings, pins, pendants and charms that have their own spark of life. The way I see it, if my sterling silver jewelry designs make me smile, there’s a good chance they’ll make my customers happy, too! They have become a big part of The Magic Zoo jewelry collection. Why did I start to design in this precious metal? My initial reason was that I love sterling silver myself, and some of my favorite heirloom pieces were in this material. I even have some sterling silver animal jewelry that I inherited from my mother, Kathryn Hutton, who was also an artist. I was looking through some of them the other day and discovered a wonderful snake pin. I don’t believe there are many from her generation (she was 90 when she passed away) who would wear a sterling silver snake! It was satisfying to me as the daughter of a wonderfully talented artist to be able to give her some of my sterling silver cats to enjoy. She was an avid cat lover. I don’t believe she was without a feline companion for more than a year or so during her long and productive lifetime. She wore many of my jewelry designs to the opera and to other tasteful venues. My mom was an interesting mix of sophistication and Kentucky “country girl.” Some of my customers have asked me if my sterling silver jewelry is .925 silver. The answer is that sterling is a grade of silver, and that grade is also known as .925 silver. In other words, sterling silver jewelry and .925 silver jewelry are one and the same. |
