I never intended to have pewter as a jewelry category. It grew out of the desire to have my cast pieces appear in color, reflecting the early days of The Magic Zoo, when all of my jewelry was colorful.

I ended up with many fans who loved my colorful jewelry, despite the fact that my interests as a designer were changing and leaning more towards casting my work.

I had a “brainstorm” and thought perhaps it would be possible to paint some of my metal designs, especially including my cat jewelry designs.

That idea grew and prospered, and before I knew it I had metal (pewter) designs that were being painted in wonderful colors. This was great news, because it meant I could keep my color loving customers happy and gave me an opportunity to continue my designing in color.

However, before they were painted, they were in their natural pewter state. Hmmm, they looked pretty good that way as well! I thought I’d include a few of them in my display booth, and lo and behold, I discovered a market for pewter jewelry!

I was happy to continue the idea, and soon was making pewter cat pins that could be either painted or not. My customers were happy with both versions, and that’s the whole truth!
