Pewter pins are attractive, and can be worn with just about any casual item of clothing. I think they are great with a jacket or on a winter coat.
I really didn’t start out with the idea of designing pewter animal pins. My introduction to pewter jewelry as an artist was in designing name badges for veterinarians. From there I developed some pewter lapel pins and that expanded into the pewter pins with an actual pin back on them.
I think the pewter pins have a lot of wonderful detail. If you need a reasonably priced gift for an animal lover, the pewter pins could fill a definite need. There are people who prefer the look of pewter jewelry over the more expensive alternatives.
Since pewter as a cast metal has been popular for a very, very long time, I would guess that there are some ancient pewter jewelry designs in the world. I haven’t done extensive research on this, but I do know that where there is metal that can be cast in various forms, the art of jewelry making has benefited.
Since pewter commonly has a lead content that can be higher than desirable, I’ve opted to have my jewelry cast in lead – free pewter. I just feel better about it that way, and don’t have to worry so much if a child wears my jewelry. I am, however, told that even lead – free pewter can contain a very small amount of lead because tin (which makes up the greatest part of the alloy from which pewter is made) naturally contains some lead.
But lead free was the way I decided to go, because I really do care about my customers.
So wear my pewter pins in good health, and because they’re fun! |
