Description: It is cast in fine pewter and has a nice silvery look, though a different one than my sterling silver design. You might want to compare them to find your favorite. Silver does need a periodic cleaning to stay looking its best whereas the pewter seems to just roll along. Some customers say it even looks better as time goes on and they never do anything to it at all as far as cleaning or maintenance. As you know the "caduceus" with the single snake is more properly called "a staff of Asclepius" a Greek who founded a school of healing. In contrast, the caduceus has wings on the top and two snakes curled around the staff. I believe I heard that the veterinary symbol used to be the twin snake one and was changed to the one snake symbol sometime in the 1970's. I don't know if that is correct but if so perhaps the name "caduceus" just carried along after the symbol itself changed. I also have designed a pewter vet technician caduceus lapel pin and you can see more technician designs at my vet gift home page. At any rate, here is a veterinary caduceus pin in a bigger size that will identify you to others as a member of the veterinarian profession instantly. |
