Description: Pewter is a bit heavier than sterling silver and has a different quality. It has more of a roughly hewn look. As a tie tack, it may be a bit on the large side, but it works quite well used as a lapel pin. Due to the weight of the piece, it would be inappropriate for, say a silken blouse. Boxers came into being in Germany bred with the purpose of serving as a security dog which they still do quite well. The story is that American servicemen overseas during World War II admired the strength and power of this handsome dog and after the war they shot up great popularity in the US. Reportedly, the name is from the English word for boxing and these dogs supposedly can play or fight using their paws to strike in a way that resembles boxing. I can certainly picture it in my mind though I don’t recall seeing it occur in real life. I will have to pay more attention next time I meet one. I think my pewter boxer lapel pin design would make a nice, inexpensive gift for a boxer lover. |
