I have quite a few fat cat designs in my line of jewelry. I’ve been making them for years! So this little pewter lapel pin or tie tack is in good company.

The expression “fat cat” originally appeared from a combination of ideas. One is that it shows a long-haired cat but not a specific breed per se- though it could represent several since the color is left to the imagination. Then, it probably has to do with noticing that our cat and many we knew seemed to plump up a bit in weight as the years rolled by and they became a bit less active physically. (Sound familiar?) And, finally it might have to do a bit with a cat’s way of relaxing in a position we call a “meatloaf” which makes the cat look larger (or fatter if you will) than it actually is.
