I think it’s nice to own at least a pair or two of pewter earrings, along with your precious metal earrings. Pewter has a soft and earthy look, and makes for a nice change once in a while. Designing pewter earrings comes with an extra challenge, which I kind of enjoy. Because pewter as a metal weighs more than some other metals commonly used for jewelry making, I have to pay a lot more attention to not just the size of the design, but in hollowing out the back carefully to create a lighter piece. Also, having a piece that is suspended from the main body of the design must be enforced to make it durable enough for heavy duty wear. Yes, some women wear only my pewter designs, both in the painted enamel version and in the natural pewter. The other thing that is kind of special to me about the pewter earring designs is that I can make Magic Zoo designs that most every one can afford. When I do my trade shows, I run into young women who are just starting out with their first job, and they are happy to find fun jewelry to wear to work that is also affordable. I think of the pewter jewelry as an entry into collecting my designs. They are detailed, attractive and have a lot of character! And they aren’t just for women who are on a budget. I have noticed some of my customers just like the look of pewter earrings. I like that! |
