Springer spaniel generally refers to the English Springer spaniel but is also a term used for a slightly smaller dog, the Welsh Springer spaniel or “Welshie”. That is such a great name! I haven’t really been that aware of there being too separate dogs here and so am not sure if I have met any Welshies. I will certainly have my eyes open now when encountering a Springer spaniel and be watching for the Welsh variety.

These are great hunting dogs and will retrieve game; mud and water are not a barrier to their enthusiasm so keep an eye on your carpets when these dogs come back home after a good romp outdoors. They have such beautiful coats and a long history. I feel I need to explore this breed a bit more and then sit down to do some Springer spaniel jewelry as this design is the only one I have done so far and there are many admirers of this dog breed.
