For some reason my yard outside my studio windows is cat heaven. It could be that my husband’s live and let live attitude toward the “grass” and other plants that grow out there and the resultant crop of lizards, birds, butterflies and insects that live in and around those plants is the reason cats love my yard. What is interesting is that 8 out of 10 cats who stop by sometime during the day are short haired varieties. I don’t know how the numbers break down between types of cats but they certainly win out here.

I like short hairs a lot. I used to know it as the Domestic Shorthair and tend to call it that but since the mid 1960’s it is officially the American Shorthair at least the ones that are pedigree cats. Probably most of my guests are the non-pedigree types since they are allowed to cruise the neighborhood at will. They are each one different colors which adds to the enjoyment of the parade.
