Description:
I think he’s a pretty typical looking member of the family, especially with his inflated gold throat sack!

When my mother, artist Kathryn Hutton turned 90 years old three years ago, I gave her this little gold frog pin for a birthday present. She promptly named him after a Greek philosopher for no discernable reason and enjoyed wearing him whenever she had a chance for the rest of her life. My mother was an incredible artist and quite a character to boot.

More frog lore: Because frogs have a blind spot just in front of the snout, they cunningly have to turn their head to the side in order to see their food.

Frogs, like reptiles, are “cold blooded” which means they have no internal means to control their body temperature. And because frogs experience water loss if they bask like a lizard, they can’t do this unless they’re close to a water source that they can jump into if they get too dry. Mostly the frogs that live in hot places stay in holes during the day and come out at night.

Most frogs spend at least part of their life cycle in water.

If you, too, have a frog lover in the family worthy of this 14k gold frog pin (also known as Pythagoras complements of my mom) I think you ought to consider it for a very special gift.

Feel free to check for more gold reptile pins gifts as in the future I plan to add more like the delightful bearded dragon gold pin.
