Description: Here’s a little lesson in rabbit digging behavior. The forepaws loosen the dirt and the hind feet kick it back. Now how did they figure that out? Here’s something that makes me laugh when I try to picture it. If the bunnies run into rocks, they actually remove them with their teeth! Pretty clever, I think! Especially for a little animal that has a reputation for being none too bright. Most of their tunnels are about 6 inches in diameter. Where the tunnels need to be wider, like places where rabbits need to pass each other, the diameter is increased to about; a foot. Unlike Peter Rabbit’s home, bunnies just lie on the bare soil and don’t even have straw as a nicety to bed down on. Bunny rabbits are pretty much complete vegetarians. How many times have my meals been referred to as being “rabbit food”? When there is no nice greenery available, rabbits eat bark. Once in a great while they eat snails or earthworms. I’ve learned recently from the House Rabbit Society that you can housebreak bunnies and even allow them free reign in your home as long as there are no exposed wires for them to chew on.
