Description: It is my personal favorite of all my cat designs and the one I enjoy wearing in both precious metals. (the silver one and the gold one)
I always refer to it as my “Egyptian cat”. There’s something about the pose that reminds me of a famous bronze sculpture from Ancient Egypt. You’ve probably seen it in a history book in school at some point. It is a graceful sculpture, usually photographed from the side.
The old Egyptian name for a male cat was Gib, Gilbert or Gibbe-cat. In certain parts of the British Isles this name is still in usage in one form or another.
I just read that when an Egyptian temple was dedicated to the sun, an image of a cat of one kind or another was always placed inside the temple in a place where it would be seen. Most people know that cats were mummified when they died. What I didn’t know is that mice were mummified as well to keep the cats well fed in the afterlife. Yes, people in old Egypt really knew the importance of cats, and if cats could talk they’d probably never let us forget it!
I realize this gold short haired cat pin pendant is for a very special cat lover. If you know of such a one, this piece could be the crowning glory of all her cat jewelry.
