Description: This particular bat was inspired by the horseshoe bat, which is common in Europe. These bats utilize their odd shaped nose leaves to direct the sound of their squeaks, which are emitted through their nostrils instead of their mouths. The echo bounces off the nearby objects, giving them a sort of audio picture of what’s around them, and hopefully a big fat juicy bug. This kind of bat is not a particularly high flying one. They usually glide no more than 10 feet above the ground, and sometimes they settle on grass stems and enjoy a banquet of beetles nearby. Spiders are also a part of their cuisine. Bats wings are things of delicate beauty. They are quite thin, so much so that you can actually see the blood moving through the vessels if you look closely. One of my favorite bat species is the flying fox of Indonesia. They are in a different group of bats than the horse shoe bat, and are quite a bit larger. They roost together in a tree and wrap their wings around themselves to keep warm. When the weather is hot, They fan their wings to cool off.
