Description: I have the matching armadillo earrings so you could, if you wanted, have a matching gold wildlife jewelry set. I have a lot of armadillo jewelry on my website, come to think of it! The armadillo we have in this country is by far the most common of them all. They are sometimes known as the nine banded armadillo. Their territory extends from the southern USA all the way through Argentina! Included in this group are six subspecies that differ slightly. In Texas, there are regions of their range that have 130 armadillos per square mile! It’s possible that in some of the tropical forests in Panama they are even more abundant. I haven’t seen too many of them here in my part of Florida, but occasionally on a walk through the palm tree forests near the beach we catch a glimpse of one of these little critters shuffling through the bushes. It always seems like such a treat to see one, a perception that the harried gardener in Texas who is trying to keep them from digging up her plants would think insane.
