Description: Rats are smart and probably deserve a better reputation than they have. At last they are being kept as pets and have joined the ranks on my gold pendant page for tiny pets. I’ve met many rat owners who are quite proud of their little rodent charges. I’ve seen them riding on people’s shoulders quite happily. That is somewhat amazing as it isn’t behavior you’d normally see in this animal. Rats, being nocturnal naturally seem like they would keep their human companions up at night. Maybe rat lovers just readjust their lives so they can keep their little friends company through the long dark night. I doubt it, though! Rats as a group are good at spreading the good rat news all over the world. There’s one species called the Polynesian rat that has colonized most all the islands in the entire Pacific! I guess all they had to do was climb on board the boats and then be smart enough to know when to disembark. The common rat is thought to have originated in Asia, but now it’s assimilated into the fauna of just about every place. My gold rat pendant is a small and unusual reminder of this little rodent companion (and those who want a larger token of their fondness, can investigate my large gold rat pendant).
