Description: Bunnies, or rabbits as they are more officially called, have hair on the bottoms of their feet instead of pads. This helps them move across surfaces like rock or snow without slipping. They have a little white tail which is short and cunningly turned up at the end. It seems that the bunny was just made to be cute. The wild rabbit coat is dusky with brown and black sort of mixed in to give it a nice blended color. The coat gets thicker in the winter, but I bet the Florida rabbit’s coat stays about the same. Not a lot of snow and ice down here in the Tampa Bay! The male rabbits are called bucks, and are a bit bigger than the females. Also the females have a longer and more delicate looking face. Rabbits have a gland under their chin that produces an identifying secretion that they use for marking territory and recognizing each other. Bunny rabbits have been bred a long time as both pets and for food, but we won’t go into that here! I’ll just say that if you plan to eat a rabbit, it seems more fair to go hunting one on your own where the little guy at least has a chance!
