Description: Frogs were everywhere, and I enjoyed watching tadpoles hatch from gelatinous batches of eggs every spring. I’m still quite fond of frogs, and love to hear them peeping as they usher in the spring up north. We have our own frogs here in Florida, and sometimes their spring concert is so loud it can be deafening in some places! (like their breeding grounds) Frogs have the smooth skin and toads have bumpy skin. I think both have their charm. I love to see a bumbling little toad hop away as far as his little hind legs can propel his chubby body across a sidewalk at night. They are so closely related that the whole group can be placed under “frog”. Frogs that live in the water most of the time have long legs and heads. Their hind legs are also longer, adapted for a swimming life style. Their way to escape danger is to hop into the water as fast as they can. Frogs and toads don’t really have a well defined neck. The nostrils and eyes are high on the head so they can be above the water’s surface when they are in the water. Sort of like a very tiny, very slippery and very short alligator. That hops.
