Description: Dolphins are truly wonderful sea mammals and one of my favorites of all my gold sea life pendants. Among their many abilities, they can dive up to 70 feet. Not only that, but they can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes! They can fill their lungs to capacity, unlike land mammals that only use half their lung capacity. All whales, including dolphins have a thick layer of blubber for insulation. They don’t have any sweat glands so have developed their own way to lose excess heat from their bodies. Funny, I just never thought about an animal that lives in the water having the need to lose body heat! Anyway, the flukes and flippers, which are warmer than the rest of the body, are able to lose heat to the water around the dolphin. Dolphin can move their eyelids and shut their eyes. Some have thought their eyesight was poor, but a dolphin performing can jump from the water and snatch a fish from some one’s hand without missing. I wouldn’t think a dolphin who needed glasses could accomplish such a feat. I could go on and on about this wonderful animal.
