Description: I was reading some basic information about the horse that I found rather fascinating. This makes sense to me, but horses have a way to “talk” to each other in a herd by watching each other’s body language. The ears are especially expressive and if they are laid back they can mean that the horse is either afraid, upset or possibly feeling aggressive. Horses also have a very keen sense of smell. That doesn’t seem surprising when you look at the size of their noses. It would follow, I think, that the sense of smell would be good. One reason his nose is so long is probably so he can graze while at the same time be watching for predators. The eyesight of a horse is practically 360 degrees. They can’t, however see right in front of their noses nor a little ways behind their rump. The horse has to see the world differently than human beings because of the way the eyes are placed. The horse has just a few different sounds that it makes vocally. These are usually described as the nicker, the blow, the squeal and the whinny. Some of these sounds can have more than one meaning.
