Description: When the first Weimaraners arrived in the United States, they were brought over by an American named Howard Knight who was from Rhode Island. He’d been a member of the breed club in Germany, and he assumed that the dogs he brought would be a breeding pair. Imagine his shock when he discovered that the Weimaraners had been sterilized in Germany! Almost ten years later he was able to import some fertile dogs and the German ban on importing only neutered dogs was broken. After that, the trend continued and other dogs followed. Knight, however was not a seller of the breed. He gave them away to his hunter friends, and at a later date turned over the kennel to professional breeders. In 1941 the American Kennel Club recognized the breed officially. In the tradition of the German club, the members were not allowed to sell or give puppies to anyone not a member. Some of their other rules seemed to mimic the German Club’s strict rules as well. They really wanted to preserve the purity of the breed. The Weimaraner Club of America was a wealthy club, and got quite a bit of publicity through various media channels. This gold large Weimaraner pendant is quite a nice piece, and I’m happy to offer it as one of my three pendant choices in this breed. Also consider my small weimaraner pendant in gold and look to my cast 14k gold dog pendant home page for other choices. |
