Description: The Scottie needs some extra coat care, more than many breeds. If it’s a show dog it needs to be professionally groomed. If it’s a pet it just needs to be clipped. I wonder if the owner can learn to do it themselves! You hate to think that such a proud little dog might have to have an embarrassing hair cut. The Scottie needs a good amount of exercise on a lead. They can be kept in a fenced area, but they have to be watched so they don’t dig a hole and run away. They’re probably looking for that elusive weasel. I wonder if you took a Scottie back to its ancestral home if it would know instinctively what to do, digging for fox and other animals among the rocky places of the Scottish Highlands. It’s kind of a romantic thought, and would be worth an experimental trial. I love the way the coat hangs all the way to the ground, so the Scottie’s feet are barely seen as he walks across the floor. It would be interesting to see how their coats were handled when they were doing their original work. Did they trim them up in some way?
