The Great Dane has had a number of names during his long and illustrious career. In fact, one of my references has 20 different names of this dog listed! Apparently in the 1600s there were three different categories of the Great Dane and they all had different names, according to the quality of the dog. The tallest Great Dane ever was about 41 inches tall and weighed 238 pounds! He actually made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. My gold Greyhound pendant is another sizable dog but he doesn't even come close! The Great Dane has a distinctive deep bark. The sound must resonate all through that huge body. This is truly a dog whose bark is worse than his bite! If the Great Dane were still the ferocious fighter it was in the days or yore, I don’t think there would be too many of them around.
