Description: I have named these two characters Hoover and Poindexter. The cat is Poindexter and the dog, of course if Hoover. They made their acquaintance on the corner where two streets meet in a small and unassuming neighborhood in Clearwater, Florida. Their initial meeting was rather abrupt and full of annoyance on both their parts. Poindexter is a gentleman of the streets, once beloved tomcat who belonged to the old lady who came to Florida every year from somewhere very cold, or so she said. She talked a lot to him, told him stories that she never thought a cat would understood. Stories about growing up in a place called Chicago, during something called a depression. Poindexter always listened politely because she fed him and gave him good clean water. Hoover lived with another old lady. She put him in the backyard during the day, and at night he was allowed to come in and sit by her on the couch, sharing her bowl of vanilla ice cream. He was a dog of leisure.
