Description: I would be curious to know if bone jewelry, other than jewelry actually made from animal bones was ever created in the time of the ancients, or even in the early part of the 20th century.  It’s now considered so symbolic of the dog, that it’s hard to imagine the origin of the concept isn’t fairly old. Picture the greyhound- like dogs in the Middle Ages stretched out on the flagstone floors of the nobleman’s castle, a large bone of some recently killed deer between his paws while he chomped on it gratefully. He probably deserved it because he participated in running the animal to ground for his master. That is the picture I get of an association of a dog and his bone. But of course much earlier than that when dogs first started their association with man they were fed the bones to keep them nearby and interested in Human habitation. But I quite seriously doubt if dog bone jewelry had any place in the ornamentation of early man!
