Description: I just learned an interesting cat fact. Let me preface it with remarking on the fact that different breeds of dogs have been around for quite a few years, thousands of years in some cases. But cats, those most wondrous of domestic pets have only been bred with any attention to creating various types for about a hundred years! It’s thought that the more fine boned and delicate body make up of cats like the Abyssinian and other exotic looking cats points to the possibility of ancestry going back to the African wild cat. Stockier built cats like the Persian and many shorthair cats may stem from the European wild cat. I don’t think anyone really knows for sure. Maybe they all came here on a space ship. To me, our domestic cats may look like those wild felines in a general body shape sort of way, but where in the heck did the Siamese cat come from? And how about that Rex cat with the permanent wave? Apparently it’s the result of a mutant gene first discovered in a litter of kittens in 1950, the same year I was born. Could there be a relationship? I’ve always felt a little different… My gold short haired cat pendant is a keeper, that’s for sure. Especially for the real cat aficionado in your life, possibly you, yourself! |
