I think my gold bird pendants are a good beginning representation of these rather magical animals. There is some special aesthetic quality that this gold bird jewelry appears to have when it is cast in this precious metal. There is something about the ability to fly that endears birds to me, and my gold insect pendants are similarly magical.
Just because they are so much a part of our everyday environment, it’s easy not to marvel at the incredibleness of birds. They are fabulously light and can take off into the air at a half a moment’s notice. They fill the world with their sweet song. (Even if it’s really just tough guy birds telling other males to keep out of their territory.) They migrate sometimes thousands of miles to spend the winter in one place and the summer someplace else.
And sometimes they are our companions, from the talented yellow canary filling our home with music to a gorgeous cockatoo cuddling with us as we watch TV in the evening. Ah, the wonder of birds.
And now we discover that birds may be the direct descendants of those most fantastic of all earth animals, the dinosaurs. Sometimes I watch a little group of ibis strolling across someone’s Florida lawn and they become to me, for an instant, a family group of a terrible lizards, hunting in a pack. (I’m not really crazy, just “differently imaginative.”)
