Description:
They are an animal that I find exquisitely beautiful, with a personality that matches their beauty.
Giraffes usually feed just after dawn and just after dusk. In the middle of the day they spend their time chewing their cud. If the moon is full and the night is bright, the giraffes take part in more active things, including grazing.
Giraffes are able to survive long periods without drinking, but regular visits to the watering hole are still required. Often they have to make quite long treks to reach a place so they can drink.
Giraffes are able to lie down, which they do while folding their legs underneath them with their heads, at least for most of the time, still held in an upright position. For a typically short 5 minute cat nap, the head is folded over the rear end.
Giraffes have a characteristic gait because of the fact that they move the two legs on the same side almost at the same time. Their maximum high speed is about 35 miles per hour. The calves can actually run a bit faster and usually run ahead of the full grown giraffes.
My 14k gold giraffe earrings were created with the intention of showing some of that gentle nature of the giraffe, condensed.
