There really is nothing quite like wearing a pair of gold small pet earrings! I make all the original designsfor my Magic Zoo gold earrings, and really work quite hard to give all of them a personality that seems to grow on you the more you wear them.
Take the guinea pig gold dangly earrings, for instance. That little face still makes me smile. And it’s not that I think I was so clever with the expression or anything like that. It just so reminds me of a guinea pig face! My goldsmith used to tell me that she laughed every time she had a finished order of guinea pigs to send to me. If you look at a guinea pig head on, you will see that very face looking back at you. It is so easy to make good animal jewelry when the models are so cooperative. (Well, the photos of the models. I don’t think working from a live small mammal would be too productive.)
Another one I really enjoyed creating was the chinchilla, a beautiful little rodent that my customers were requesting pretty often. They must be popular as pets now.
I have a lot of fun designing my jewelry, but the ones in the gold small pet earring group were a challenge unto themselves. Working small and working detailed- that is one of the best combinations I’ve found for an animal artist such as myself.
