Description:
I wish every youngster growing up now could have the experience of making good friends with nature like I did growing up in the 1950s .I’ve always loved frogs, starting when I watched my first tadpoles hatch in a glass jar full of frog eggs I’d collected from the local creek.
There are more frogs and toads than any other amphibians. There are 3,500 different species, most of them in the tropics. There are a lot of them in more temperate climates as well, and their songs can be heard joyfully proclaiming spring after the snows melt.
Unlike their relative the salamander, frogs do not have a tail in the adult form. A tail would making jumping awkward, and since that’s what frogs are best at, no tail is the way to go. This makes frogs pretty short for an amphibian. They only have 9 vertebrae as opposed to the 30-20 in newts and salamanders. Frogs seem to get by quite well with the equipment they have, however.
Frogs symbolize good luck in some cultures. They certainly helped me develop a deep love of animals, so they surely brought good luck my way!
These 14k gold frog earrings would be a wonderful gift for the woman who collects frog jewelry and, like me, loves these little amphibians.
