Description:
Dolphins are diurnal (active by day). After each meal, they take a nap for about an hour. Ah, what a life! The females sleep high on the water, exposing only their blowhole so they can breathe automatically. The males sleep a bit below the surface, and have to rise every so often to breathe. That’s a change of pace! The guys actually let the womenfolk sleep in, or at least this seems like the dolphin version of it.
Dolphin are really community oriented animals. If a school mate is injured, several dolphins push their heads under the body, and raise it so it can breathe. I’ve heard stories of dolphin doing the same for injured humans, which only increases their good reputation among us landlubber types.
Dolphins swim with an un- fish like up and down motion of the tail propelling them through the water. Their flippers help steer them, with the dorsal fin also being sued to help stabilize them. Their lungs are placed high in the body and because of that fact, the dolphin stays well balanced.
For that special dolphin collector in your family, (doesn’t everyone have at least one?) these 14k gold dolphin earrings would make a marvelous gift.
