Description:
I’ve gotten into learning about some ancient horse breeds that still make their home on the planet, lucky for us. One of the ones I am really fascinated by is the Mongolian Pony. It may be one of the oldest breeds still with us today. It is undoubtedly the horse that Genghis Khan rode along with his mighty warriors when they swept across Northern China.
There are four different types of these ponies that developed in four different types of environments. They’re known as the Gobi, the Steppe, the Mountain and the Forest types.
These are extremely tough ponies and are used to this day as draft animals and for riding. Some are even raised for their milk. Somehow I have a hard time picturing someone milking a horse!
These Mongolian ponies are said to travel up to 120 miles a day, which would be tough for any other horse today. The book where I learned some of these facts says they aren’t particularly attractive, but I say that beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder and I think they are great looking animals. They certainly don’t look like the modern horse which is what makes them so amazing.
And now, back to my gold facing horse earrings. What do you think?
