Description:
If you are a horsewoman yourself, you may want to put these on your wish list! If you love a horsewoman, you might want to surprise her with these very special gold horse earrings.
The artist spent many hours creating this design. The intention was to capture the essence of the horse profile, and to craft it resembling a horse with braided mane. This is a very special pair of earrings, and they may be just right for your special lady.
One of the horses I’ve seen pictured that does wear the mane in a neat little braid is the Hackney pony. It was developed in the 1800s by a Christopher Wilson in Great Britain. It is said that he mated his stallion with the Fell mares. Then the young were interbred to create the pony. There were some other influences as well. The pony is a tough little character, probably due to Wilson’s practice of keeping them out in the winter where they had to fend for themselves. It wasn’t easy for them, but it did make them self sufficient and strong.
They seem to be used in competition, pulling a carriage with a very high stepping action, carrying the head high and arching the neck. They are a very beautiful pony with large eyes and small pricked ears. The tail is carried high, which I think ads to the beauty of the breed. Most often these ponies are black, bay or chestnut with some white markings as well.
This pair of earrings is not a Hackney pony, but I thought the breed so pretty I wanted to mention it.
