Description: Goats are matriarchal. The powerful buck is under the jurisdiction of the nanny-goat who is the leader of the herd. I sometimes wonder what makes an animal herd seemingly disobey the “laws of nature” that are the most familiar. I can understand patriarchal societies if only from the viewpoint that the males are typically the larger and the stronger of the two sexes and would be the most likely to defend the herd, decide where to graze, etc. But here’s this little nanny-goat able to bend the big billy-goat to her will. It’s a tantalizing prospect and would be fun to observe! Goat meat is not especially appealing to the western palate, and goats as food animals aren’t as common as sheep. Goats have a peculiarly musky odor that some people find offensive, and this carries into the meat. I think the milk also has a special quality that is kind of “goaty”, but it doesn’t bother me particularly. There are some cultures that utilize the meat of goats, but ours doesn’t seem to be one of them. One of my favorite goats is the boer. I have plans to create a Magic Zoo boer goat design sometime in the not too distant future. One of my customers recently told me that the beautiful reddish brown boer goats are a particularly gentle breed, and one of the goats used as a food animal.
