When I created my Shih Tzu design I enjoyed looking at so many examples of this lovely little dog. They are available in so many colors, and it seems that any color is accepted. I like that!

The Shih Tzu, like many other ancient toy breeds is a strong and healthy dog generally speaking, but a balanced diet must be maintained so the dog retains its health and activity level. In other words, you don’t want that beautiful little boy or girl of yours to get tubby!

Of course a show dog needs a lot more coat care than his pet dog counterpart. In fact, show dogs have to be daily untangled with a steel comb and a good quality brush. There are other advices as to the care of the little dog in show business as well. I guess you must sometimes suffer for your fans, like all celebrities do.

It was in 1946 that the Shih Tzu gained breed recognition in England. In 1969, recognition in the United States followed. Since that time the popularity of the Shih Tzu has become legion. I’m not sure what the ancient ones in China would have thought about all us commoners sharing our home with this beloved and revered dog. But I think the Shih Tzus themselves are having a grand time!
